The collection, documentation, storage, sharing and preservation of research data is crucial to its protection, accessibility and discoverability as new digital technologies create massive quantities of data at an explosive rate.
The Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy published in 2021 requires researchers to produce a data management plan and deposit their research data, as well as corresponding metadata and code, in a digital repository. It also requires that institutions publish an institutional strategy aimed at their objectives, best practices, and capacity for research data management. We can help.
To assist researchers with data storage and data management, we can help:
- Store data via the Alliance federation’s 95 petabytes of storage across its national systems.
- Create a virtual machine in the cloud to store, analyze and share data.
- Identify appropriate data repositories for their research data and assist in deciding what part of their data can be made publicly available.
- Develop a data management plan.
- Provide guidance and support for managing discipline-specific research data, particularly human-participant and sensitive data.
To assist institutions with fulfilling their institutional strategy objectives, we can provide:
- One-on-one consultations with researchers, students, and administrators.
- Work with academic libraries to deliver custom group training on research data management, data repositories, managing sensitive data, and creating data management plans.
If you are interested in consulting on research data management, or receiving custom group training, please contact Meghan Landry, our Research Consultant in Humanities & Social Sciences.
